Article summary

The Location Importer is for importing location files. This is the most efficient way to add locations in bulk into the system. The file that you import has to be an excel file in .CSV format (comma delimited). If you click the Template button in the top right, it will download a template excel file which will show you all of the headers you will need to put on the file for each column of information.

If you click the Logs button in the top right, it will show you the last 10 imports that were performed. You can also pull the file that was imported for each of them too by clicking the File link on the right side (See Below).

To start a location import, go to Imports tab, then Locations. Click the Choose File button and select the excel file you are importing.

Once you choose the file to import, notice that the Save button is clickable now. Click the Save button and when it's done it will pop up a screen letting you know it's finished.

Once the import is complete, you will see the section down below called Previous Import Results. It will show you how many locations were imported along with other detail I will note down below.

The fields are numbered in the image above to correspond to the list below:

  1. Status: This will be either Completed or Failed. If it failed then there's probably something in the file that caused it to fail such as a foreign character etc.
  2. New: This is how many new locations were imported.
  3. Updated: This is how many locations already existed but were updated with new information in the file.
  4. Rejected: This is how many of the records in the file that rejected, usually due to missing lookups.
  5. Unchanged: These records in the file were the same as what was already in the system and didn't change.
  6. Missing Lookups: This is the number of missing lookups. Lookups are things such as Location Type, Inventory ID, etc.
  7. Total: This is the total number of locations in the file.

At this point, the import process is complete and you can proceed to import other files if necessary.
